Meet the Team
With Avanza Veterinary Surgery, Dr. Davila hopes to make surgical treatment more accessible to pet owners in the Denver area including those who would benefit from an explanation of the treatment in Spanish. She also strives to help guide and support the Family Veterinarian throughout the process while maintaining and strengthening their relationship with their patients.
Dr. Davila is a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and owner of Avanza Veterinary Surgery. She grew up in the Chicagoland area where she attended DePaul University with a focus in Marketing. Soon after, she worked in the hospitality & trade show industry for several years prior to pursuing her passion for veterinary medicine. She earned a BS in Biology from Benedictine University in 2003 and a DVM from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007. Dr. Davila then went on to complete a 1-year rotating internship in small animal medicine & surgery in Illinois followed by a 1-year specialty internship in surgery in Colorado before returning to the Midwest to complete a 3-year surgery residency at the University of Minnesota.
She returned to Colorado in 2012 where she practiced in a Denver multi-specialty referral hospital for the next 10 years. In addition, Dr. Davila has helped other Denver area specialty referral hospitals as an emergency surgeon on call.
When not helping pets, Dr. Davila enjoys spending her free time with her husband, her 2 children and 2 dogs, Simon and Henry. Once all the human and fur babies are asleep, she and her husband enjoy playing the occasional strategy board game with their friends.
Sarah's love for the veterinary profession started with her very first job in high school as a kennel technician at an animal hospital. After high school Sarah attended Western Washington University and graduated with a BS in Cellular Biology and a Minor in Chemistry in 2004. Sarah was born and raised in Colorado and eventually the love of her home town drew her back. It was the gratifying nature of her experience at her first job that would bring her to Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology where she graduated with honors in 2014. Since graduating she has worked in the surgery department of an emergency/specialty hospital until July 2022. Sarah has since gained a tremendous amount of experience in this area of veterinary medicine and her love for learning keeps her striving for more. Outside of work, Sarah will find any excuse to be outside. Walking with her husband and her 2 dogs Calla and Norman or lounging in a hammock with a good book is always on the weekend agenda.
Teamwork
Dr. Davila and Sarah have worked closely together since 2014. Long hours and a stressful work environment can lead to a high turnover rate in this industry. We have worked together and remained friends throughout the years due to a similar work ethic and shared passion for providing a high standard of service for our patients. After all of these years, sometimes it seems like we complete each other's thoughts and sometimes, we even show up to work wearing the same colors!
